Palm Beach State College The Employ Florida Banner Center for Life Sciences at Palm Beach State College is Florida’s industry-driven resource for life sciences workforce education and training whose mission is "to serve as the statewide center for training, education, and support needs of Florida’s life sciences workforce."

As the Banner Center for Life Sciences reflects on its first year of operation, it is impossible not to consider the Center’s accomplishments. Our first year was one of analysis, planning and development. We created 6 core course curricula, offered nine workshops - training 125 individuals ranging from entry-level to Ph.D. from over 35 Florida companies.

Through the strong support of our Industry Advisory Council (IAC), which includes representatives from 20 Florida companies, we formed institutional partnerships to expand our training statewide. To determine current and future workforce needs, we conducted regional focus groups and will continue this into our second year. We are presently engaged in expanding statewide delivery of training through our project partners. Efforts are underway to evaluate and refine curricula to address industry trends and improve overall effectiveness. We have created steering committees that foster statewide engagement and provide depth to our programs.

The Center is expanding its marketing and outreach efforts through an enhanced website, social media tools, program presentations and sponsorship opportunities. A major focus, too, will be the implementation of our Strategic Business Plan to achieve sustainability beyond our third year. Looking forward, we see many challenges including overcoming geographical distances, increasing training efficiencies and reducing redundancy across Florida organizations. We envision the development and launch of online courses to address such challenges. We also hope to collaborate with other Florida life science organizations to leverage and improve existing resources to better serve the industry.
